Wedding Planning | Programs

wedding

Our wedding will be outside, in a garden with no shade at the end of July. What does this mean? HOT! So in order to combat the heat, we've decided to make our programs into fans, as well as pass out water to all our guests. Above is the bare bones of the program we've created (incase you want to also use it for yours). Below the arrows we will write in the wedding party names and any other details about the ceremony.

It was super simple to make this using a basic paint program and finding some free clipart online and voila!

Did you make your own wedding programs? What things did you find helpful? Let me know!

How To Annoy Your Barista

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Barista

I work as a barista and anyone who works in the food, service and/or retail industry knows how completely rude and annoying people can be. However, many people don't realize how irritating their habits really are. Thus, just for fun, I decided to put together a small list of things that annoy your barista.

1. Ordering while you're on the phone.

If you know you are going to go in for coffee, do not start a phone call before you order. Or, if you receive a call, politely tell them that you will call them back. When you order while you are still on the phone, you are distracted. You take up more time because we have to repeat questions because you are either a0 not listening or b) not answering. This is especially frustrated when there is a line forming behind you.

2. Standing in line forever without deciding and there's a lineup behind you.

I understand being unsure of what everything means. All these weird words like misto and macchiato and your not exactly sure what any of them mean. By all means, ask questions. But don't stand in line for 20 minutes and then get to the cash and not be even remotely sure what you want. You came in for something right? You must be vaguely aware of what that 'something' you want is.

3. Ordering your drink and then deciding that you want something else but aren't sure what.

This one goes hand in hand with the above. This is the person who walks confidently up to the cash and orders, but then halfway through trying to cash them out, decides maybe they want something else to go with there order, like a muffin or a cookie, but aren't quite sure what. And so midway transaction, they walk over to the baked goods, leaving you with a line full of angry waiting customers.

4. Replying to how are you today by barking your order.

"Hi, how are you today?"

"Small medium roast"

Not the correct response. Keep in mind that your barista is also a fellow human being, not just a servant beneath your feet. We know your busy. Believe me, we are too. So we're not going to chat you up for 20 minutes. It's a simple, common courtesy hello.

5. Ordering in Starbucks sizes when you aren't at Starbucks.
Would you go to Wendy's and order a Big Mac? No. It's rude. I've asked if you would like a regular or a large size. Please don't say grande. Always order from the size options given to you.

6. Ordering a “caramel macchiato” when your not at Starbucks.

A macchiato means marked with milk. It is a shot of espresso and a small dollop of milk foam. A Starbucks caramel macchiato is a fancy sounding name for what is actually a caramel-vanilla latté . While most baristas will know what you mean, don't assume that all do. You may get a strange look and a tiny cup of ridiculously sweet espresso. (True story. I once made this for someone when I first started because I had never heard of a starbucks caramel macchiato.)

7. Asking for your drink to be “extra hot”
Milk burns. When you ask for an “extra hot” drink, you are asking your barista to do the thing that they are trained NOT to do: scald the milk. I understand if your trying to keep it hot when travelling, but it won't taste as good. Instead try investing in an insulated thermos to keep it hot.

Can any of you relate? Have you ever commited these crimes and not realized? Let me know!

Sick Day Essentials

Sick day essentials

I've been down with the flu lately and so I thought I'd share my sick day essentials - the things that helped me get through feeling not-so-great.

Scentsy Melt in Luna
It's hard to describe this smell other than to saw its super relaxing. It's a mix of being at a spa and making you feel sleepy - great for when a lot of rest is on order.

Chicken Noodle Soup

It's an oldie but a goodie! There's just something about chicken noodle soup when you are sick.

Tissues

Pretty self explanatory but it's always import to have a lot in stock.

Green or Herbal Tea

Especially in the winter, I love having a hot drink to sip while curled up on the couch. My favourites are Sencha green tea and Chamomile.

Warm Fuzzy Blanket

When your sick, there's nothing more important than having a comfy space to rest. A big warm Blakey always makes every space more comfy.

Comfy Pajamas

Of course you want to be comfortable yourself, so whether it's sweatpants or a onsie, wearing comfy jim jams is a must!

Entertainment

Sleep is a must but sometimes you just can't. In those instances, I like to curl up on the couch and watch a marathon of Pretty Little Liars.

So there are my sick day essentials. What are your sick day must haves? Let me know!
